So what is it, exactly which makes people decide to shop for something? Is it a need? Is it a desire? Is it to just be doing something?

The answer here is yes. It is all of those reasons and more. People shop for different things and for each of those things there will quite probably be a different reason for them to be shopping for it. Let’s look at some things here so that you get the meaning.

Designer diaper bags are something that people don’t need. They want them. They are a status symbol and something to show off to their friends and say I that they have enough money to waste on such an item. The same thing goes for cool baby clothes. That is for people that are into keeping up on the latest style and not geared out of need. However the cute baby clothes are something that most parents will spend money on. That is because they all feel that their babies are the cutest things and the cute outfits make sense and they can justify that purchase easily.

For example, if you were looking for something for your house like perhaps an antique wash basin. Most people have little to no need for that particular thing. Yes it might look great in the house decor and it may even set up a room to look awesome. But the person who looks for and ultimately buys that piece is someone that is shopping out of desire. An example of a need would be shopping for a new sink because the old one is broken or leaking.

As we stated, people shop for various reasons. The secret though is not so much in why the people shop but more in why the people buy. If we can answer that question then we are closer to finding out why they actually shop in the first place.

For most people, no matter why they are shopping they will buy based on feelings. They might be looking for a new sink. But there are a ton of new sinks at any home improvement store. Once they get there and look them over there might be several that fit the physical need. In that case they will go with the one that feels good.

The designer diaper bags and the cool baby clothes, heck even the cute baby clothes are something that will be purchased by feeling. In other words when they look at it, it made them feel like it was the right thing to buy at the point in time. Or maybe it just made them feel either happy or good. The point is that they base that purchase on feelings. And this is the main reason for people making purchases of a specific item. Need, desire, want might get them in the mood to go look. But feeling is what makes them open their wallet and pay for the item at the end of the shopping trip.
